These are story ideas I might use one day, but for now I’m parking them here and welcoming you to do with them as you please.
1. Person breaks a mirror, gouges out eyes, replaces them with mirror fragments.
2. The wolf stared at me with television static in its eyes, its shadow flickering, a child’s scream pushed out of its throat. I scrambled backwards against a tree, branches like claws lashing out at me. I ducked, rolled, and recovered my balance. The sky swirled with alien stars that spoke to me, a language I shouldn’t have known but did.
3. The hallway bled, and I smiled. The hallway bled, and I sang. I felt the pulsing of a heart, somewhere, ragged and insistent.
4. Teeth in the dark, glinting, fearless.
5. The wood screams as I split it, blood and viscera spilling from each log. I don’t care. I need firewood. I wipe the blood from my eyes and swing down again, the wood’s anguished wails lost in my ears.
6. In the broken city, a single candle remained lit, flickering in the still-intact window of the black cathedral. A man with no eyes smiled, his shadow dancing on charred walls.
7. The forest breathed for me as branches forced their way down my throat.
8. A workman comes into a house and finds four grinning statues gathered around a dinner table piled with viscera.
9. Twin suns rise, and the King holds sway at his court, but you don’t have an invitation. You stand outside the doors of the palace.
10. The day the sea turned to blood, coagulating waves breaking on the shore, things came out of it made of absence.
